Cold winter forecast for Axe Valley

Axe valley cold weather warning

The chilling advice comes from Axminster’s newly appointed “snow warden” – former mayor John Jeffery.

He has been tasked with ensuring the town and outlying areas are ready to combat any big freeze.

And he told members of the town council this week that he was expecting a busy time.

He said: “The Met office are keeping me up to date and at the moment they are forecasting another bitterly cold winter with periods of disruption and heavy snow and ice.”

Mr Jeffery said the key was to be prepared with stockpiles of salt grit.

Mayor Ron Jones said he would call a meeting of the emergency committee to firm up their contingency plans.
