POLICE joined forces with other agencies to visit over 300 homes in Colyton as part of a community action day.Householders were offered free services during the event, held last Friday, from the police, East Devon District Council, the fire service, Devon Care and Repair, which is a home improvement agency, and Neighbourhood Watch.The initiative aimed to cut local crime and to empower the community. Residents were given the opportunity to discuss problems.The event, on Friday, June 5, was co-ordinated by Gerry Moore, the community safety and anti-social behaviour officer for East Devon.He said: "I am extremely happy with what we achieved in Colyton on Friday."We had 12 people knocking on doors, offering various services, and the take-up rate was good. It was partnership working at its best."During the visits, residents made requests for the following services: a police home crime prevention survey, property marking, to be able to see a local officer or PCSO about neighbourhood issues, home fire safety surveys from the fire service, to see a housing officer from East Devon District Council, and assistance from the Devon Care and Repair Agency.
