Public asked to comment on scheme to build up to 80 homes on the former CeramTec factory site

Plans to build up to 80 new homes on Colyton’s former CeramTec factory site will be unveiled at a public exhibition tomorrow (Tuesday, February 6)

Homes England, a public body with a remit to facilitate the delivery of sufficient new homes and promote a sustained improvement in affordability, acquired the Sidmouth Road site in June last year.

Shortly after this, planning and urban design consultants Peter Brett Associates (PBA) and LHC Architecture were appointed to help develop a vision for the regeneration of the site.

The outline plans will see the creation of 60 to 80 much-needed homes, employment space and the creation of public open space accessible to the town.

It is proposed that the dwellings will reflect the character of Colyton, using sympathetic building materials and the streets will be slow speed environments designed to be safe for pedestrians and cyclists.

Measures are also being proposed to retain and enhance natural habitats within the development to nurture wildlife and landscape features.

The feedback gathered at the exhibition which takes place at Colyton Town Hall between 2.30pm and 7.30pm, will be used to help shape the design of the development before an outline planning application is submitted to East Devon District Council.

Homes England says it is committed to bringing this “key site” back into use and is working alongside stakeholders and the local community to achieve this.
