Jackie Shute selected for the national over 40s women’s hockey team

Jackie Shute, Head of PE at Colyton Grammar School, has been selected to represent England for the Over 40s women’s hockey team.

Trials began earlier this year and the squad of 16 has now been confirmed. Jackie, who teaches both PE and mathematics at Colyton, will play a forward or midfield position within the team.

The squad is now training in preparation for the Home Countries Tournament, which takes place in Edinburgh from June 15 to 17. Their next challenge will be the World Cup in Canterbury, where they will compete against teams including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and the Netherlands.

Jackie said: “Having played national league hockey for 22 years, it is a great honour to be chosen to represent the country – we all wish they’d leave the ‘over 40s’ part off our team kit though!”
