Police and firefighters give advice on how to avoid becoming distracted at the wheel
Colyton firefighters and the local neighbourhood beat officer PC Steve Speariett recently visited the town’s youth club to chat to the older members about the importance of not getting distracted whilst driving.
A portable reaction game was taken along and the youngsters competed for the highest score. They were then asked to try it again whilst using their mobile phones – and the scores dropped dramatically, demonstrating if a mobile phone is used whilst driving, hand-held or hands-free, people are four times more likely to crash.
