With spring in the air, budding local flower arrangers got busy with hundreds of tulips from Amsterdam recently.

At the first in a new series of workshops at Combe St Nicholas Village Hall, women from across the area were given a step-by-step demonstration before trying it themselves. Each one made a rustic design using fresh tulips, twigs and foliage.

Sarah Belshaw, from Axminster, said: “I found out about this workshop from a story in my local paper. It was really interesting. I was so pleased with my design and the tutor was excellent.”

Tutor Jackie Nicholls from Ashville Design, which runs the workshops, said: “Modern flower arranging these days is very uplifting, therapeutic, infectious and fun – best of all you don’t need any experience to have a go.”

The next two workshops are making a ‘Spring Floral Card’, on Thursday, February 25, 6pm to 8.30pm, followed by making a ‘Spring Posy’ on Monday, March 14, 10am to 12.30pm. The cost is £20, including basic kit and refreshments. For more information, contact Jackie Nicholls on 01460 67795 or 07906 259683 or visit www.ashvilledesign.co.uk
