Community rallies for Awliscombe School

FOUNDATION and Year 1 pupils at Awliscombe Church of England Primary School are celebrating the completion of a £170,000 project to provide them with a refurbished building.

FOUNDATION and Year 1 pupils at Awliscombe Church of England Primary School are celebrating the completion of a £170,000 project to provide them with a refurbished building.The Bishop of Crediton, the Right Reverend Bob Evens, will officially open The Stable Block on November 6.Work involved extending and completely renovating the school's former hall, and includes a new toilet and cloakroom area.A new hall is being provided in an old classroom.The school's parent, teacher and friends' association has pledged to raise £5,000 towards the project, and recently handed over a cheque for £3,000. Funding the bulk of the work is the Church of England. Awliscombe Parochial Church Council had donated £1,000 towards the scheme. The same amount was forthcoming from Devon County Council member Roger Boote, from his community fund.Local residents have also donated a total of £1,500, so far.
