As part of its ongoing work with the community, Axminster Heritage Centre has launched a short online survey.

Officials say they want to get the views of local people and build them into their development plans.

The results will also be used to inform its next Heritage Lottery Fund grant application.

A spokesman said: “Your feedback is requested on the importance of heritage to residents, experience to date of the Heritage Centre, what activities and facilities you’d like to see and any improvements you’d like to suggest.”

To encourage as many people as possible to participate, one person completing the survey will win £25.

People can take part in the survey by visiting the website: http://axminsterheritage.org/

In the meantime, Axminster Heritage Centre is busy working behind the scenes preparing to open at Easter for its second season.

Axminster Heritage recently received a substantial grant towards the next stage of its restoration work at its Silver Street centre.

Just over £90,000 has been provided by Making it Local for LEADER funding.

The money is being used to restore the Dye House of Thomas Whitty’s original carpet factory, together with its surrounding boundary walls, and to clear the Dye Garden.

The Dye House is the only part of the original factory that survived the 1828 fire, which started on January 23, in an adjoining Malthouse, destroying most of the premises.

Thomas Whitty started weaving carpets in 1755.
