Youngsters from Upottery Pre-school have presented Devon

Country Councillor (DCC) Paul Diviani with a thank-you card after the school’s roof was repaired.

Following months of problems as a result of its leaky roof, the pre-school’s committee applied for a local grant of £2,000 from Devon County Council in September, through Cllr Diviani.

The committee’s request was granted and, during the October half term, the roof was fixed by Honiton business AMB Roofing & Building Services.

Committee members also collectively raised £1,000 themselves though several fundraising events, which helped cover the rest of the repair costs.

Abi Few, pre-school leader, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this grant.

“It meant we could get our roof repaired before the winter months.”

The pre-school committee now plans to raise money by hosting a pantomime, Beauty and the Beast on Sunday, December 6.

Tickets are £7 and under-twos enter for free.

Doors open at the Manor Rooms in Upottery at 2pm and the show starts at 2.30pm. To buy tickets, call Pam Rich on 01823 601185.

Any funds raised will be used to repair the cosmetic

damage caused by the water leaking into the pre-school building.
