Town council to consult a barrister with a view to seeking a Judicial Review into Cloakham development
AXMINSTER Town Council is preparing to mount a legal challenge to the granting of permission for up to 400 homes at Cloakham Lawns.
Acting on advice from a planning consultant, members agreed, on Saturday, to consult a barrister “with a view to a pre-application letter being sent to East Devon District Council stating that Axminster Town Council would be seeking a Judicial Review of planning application 10/0816/MOUT”.
Town Clerk Hilary Kirkcaldie stressed: “In taking this action, Axminster Town Council is acting on its own and completely independently of any other persons or group.”
The independent Save our Parkland group recently launched a 25,000 appeal to help fund any legal action to halt the housing development, for which land owners Axminster Carpets were granted outline planning consent.
