CRIME has decreased in Seaton from 570 reported incidents last year, to 406.

Sgt Richard Stonecliffe released crime figures during the town council's annual meeting on Monday, May 10.

Violent crime has decreased from 91, to 78 cases; domestic burglary from 42, to 23; and criminal damage from 156 to 99.

Sgt Stonecliffe said: "I would like to think it's partly down to our work. But it's not a reason to be complacent.

"We only need one or two active criminals to visit our town for a spell, and those figures can be bumped up considerably."

But rowdy/nuisance behaviour incidents had increased from 252 to 308.

Police have introduced a new rowdy category from April 2009, called 'rowdy/nuisance behaviour - solvent abuse'.

Other reported crimes reported from April 2009 to March 2010 include: nine sexual offences; 65 assaults; one robbery; and 41 drug offences.
