CRIME in Axminster is down on last year, according to police reports.PC Darren Herridge announced during the monthly town council meeting there had been a drop in crime and detection rates were up.He said criminal damage to motor vehicles had dropped notably and referred to a recent case where the culprit received an £80 fine and the aggrieved was compensated.He said he hoped the message would get out that 'getting drunk and smashing up cars' was not a good idea.In July, the records showed there were just 26 crimes committed in the town, compared to 33 in the same month last year, 27 in 2006 and 48 in 2005.
