THE number of reported crimes in Devon fell by nine per cent in the last financial year, new figures have revealed.

THE number of reported crimes in Devon fell by nine per cent in the last financial year, new figures have revealed.A total of 50,698 crimes were reported in 2008/09, compared with 55,531 in 2007/08.Chief Superintendent Jo Tennant said: "I am delighted with the reduction in crime across Devon I the past year, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all our staff and the support we receive from the communities we serve."A co-ordinated approach between police, local authorities and all public services at a local level is really important and I have been impressed at the commitment to work in partnership."Ms Tennant said she recognised that more work is still to be done and that she is always seeking to improve the service the constabulary offers.
