IN line with other parts of East Devon, crime in Honiton is falling. The number of crimes recorded between March 10 and April 14 totalled 74, against 99 in the same period last year.A wooden door was jemmied open by burglars to account for the only house burglary in the past month. However, there were 10 "other thefts", mainly from garages. (See page 3.)Criminal damage accounted for 14 crimes, while there were three thefts from vehicles, three cases of public disorder, two drug matters and three drink-driving offences.PC Ian Atyeo, Neighbourhood Beat Manager, told Honiton Town Council on Monday that during the last financial year calls received by police in the town resulted in 4,002 logs being created. Of those, 1,128 went on to be recorded as crimes in the town. A further 346 crimes were logged for the 17 rural patches around Honiton, bringing the total to 1,474 - an average of four a day across the area.
