Crime figures show a “significant drop”.

Recorded crime in Honiton has seen a “significant drop”, according to police figures.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Darren England told Honiton Town Council at a meeting last week that crime for the period between November 12 to December 10 had decreased to 42, compared to 66 recorded during the same period last year.

PSCO England said: “That is quite a significant drop.”

He also told the meeting that one crime had already been detected, which involved an incident of shoplifting, and the male had been dealt with by way of restorative justice - paying for the stolen items and apologising to the shop involved.

He also advised that inquiries into six other crimes were ongoing.

Over the period, 10 assaults had been reported - four of them occurred on the same evening.

There were also three thefts of motor vehicles, three thefts from motor vehicles, eight other thefts and six incidents of criminal damage.

PCSO England said there had been no issues at the town’s annual Christmas carnival and the event went very well.
