Crime in Seaton Rural is at an all time low since 2004 according to the latest figures.

CRIME in Seaton Rural is at its lowest since 2004 as a result of the hard work of its local policing team but there will be tough times ahead.

In 2010 there were 135 crimes reported in the area, which was more than 100 crimes less than the peak in 2004.

Constable Steve Speariett, from the Seaton Rural policing team, said: “It is great to see such a significant reduction in crime and we would like to thank the community for their support.”

The policing team believe the reduction has been helped by the strong links officers and staff have forged with the community, partner agencies and young people and the positive action taken against offenders.

However, challenging times lie ahead with the implementation of spending cuts to the police force.

PC Speariett said: “This year is going to be very challenging with the financial cuts in the public sector but we will continue to provide the best possible service to the communities we serve so that the Seaton area remains a safe place to live, work and visit.”

The Seaton Rural policing area covers a number of parishes, which all saw a reduction in crime including Axmouth, Colyton, Farway, Northleigh and Southleigh.
