Crime in Honiton has risen by nearly 19 per cent when comparing this month’s crime figures with last year’s stats.

Between Monday, August 10 and Sunday, September 13, 44 crimes in Honiton were recorded – an 18.9 increase on 37 incidents reported for the same period last year.

The crimes included six cases of violence resulting in injury, and 12 without injury, two public order offences and one sexual offence.

There was also a burglary non dwelling, one case of vehicle crime, four shoplifting offences and eight thefts.

The remaining crimes consisted of four incidents of criminal damage, two supplying drugs and two drug possession offences.

A spokesman for Honiton Police confirmed that 24 crimes are currently under investigation, while 11 offences have been either been undetected or no offender has been found.

Five crimes have been detected and dealt with. There were also three non-intentional fuel thefts, with the garage making inquiries, and one crime where the offender was below the age of criminal responsibility.
