Crimes recorded in Honiton have risen slightly in the last month.

Between Monday, May 11, and Sunday, June 7, 32 recorded offences were committed – an increase of five compared to 27 for the same period last year.

Of the recorded offences, there was one burglary, one attempted burglary, and five counts of common assault.

There were two assaults resulting in actual bodily harm, where the offender was known to the victim in both cases, and four counts of criminal damage – two to buildings and two to vehicles.

Three fraud offences were also committed, as were one sexual assault, one stalking offence, one possession of a controlled drug and one theft from a motor vehicle.

The last of the crimes included five counts of theft by finding, one theft in dwelling, one public order offence and one assault resulting in grievous bodily harm.

There were also four thefts from shops, two of which are currently under investigation. One was resolved through a community resolution and in the other, the offender was bailed.

Honiton PCSO Steve Mingo said: “Although crime has risen slightly this month, we have recently seen several months where crime has been down.

“This month’s figures do not reflect an issue in any one particular area but do reflect the wide variety of incidents we deal with. We will monitor these statistics locally and where there is more recorded crime we will continue to target offenders and aim to achieve a satisfactory result for the victim.”
