WEST Dorset residents can get cut-price compost for one week.

During Compost Awareness Week, May 2 to 8, a 220 litre bin will be on offer for 14, and a 330 litre one for 17.

Composting helps the environment by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill. It also helps gardeners save money, as a sack of compost can cost around 5.

Leah Wistrand, Recycling Officer for West Dorset District Council, said: "Good compost is essential for a productive garden. Buying compost can be expensive and it is very heavy and awkward to lug about.

"Making your own compost at home is very easy and it is a brilliant way of turning rubbish into something useful.

"Composting is already very popular in West Dorset. We estimate that around 75 per cent of residents already compost some of their waste at home. I would like to thank everyone who home composts because they are playing an important role in reducing the amount of rubbish that goes to landfill. If you haven't started composting yet, join in and give it a go."
