FANCY dress was the order of the day for 80 per cent of the participants in an annual cycle ride, held last Saturday in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust."We had three tandems in the line-up and cyclists travelled from as far afield as Dublin, Manchester and Suffolk to take part," said organiser Adrian Phillips.Over �1,000 was collected on the day, not counting donations in collecting tins and sponsorship money.Jean Tratt, Mayoress of Honiton, and town crier Dave Retter started the event from The Otter Inn, Weston, after judging the fancy dress classes.Cyclists, all 243 of them, visited The Six Bells, Payhembury, The Blacksmith's Arms, Plymtree, The Talaton Inn, The Thirsty Farmer, Whimple, and The Nog Inn, Feniton, before returning to The Otter Inn.The event was sponsored by Cycle Honiton, South West Highways, Heathpark Commercials, Leesons, AG Signs, Millstream Taxis and Nick Reed.Mr Phillips would like to thank all those who supported the event, including back-up drivers Simon Prout and Mike Harding, and St John Ambulanceman Mike Layzell for co-ordinating first aid cover. "I'd also like to thank my family," he said.
