HONITON'S Millennium Green will be the venue of a commemorative event to mark the 65th anniversary of D-Day.Honiton Twinning Association will be holding an informal picnic on June 6. The event is open to all - just bring your own food and refreshments. Picnic-goers are invited from 4pm. A spokesperson for the twinning association said: "Our French twin town, which is not far from the Normandy beaches, is seeking to promote this event around the world, among all who have a connection with, or an interest in, the events of 1944."The Honiton area played a pivital part in the run-up to the beach landings.A poignant, but private, service is to be held at the former Upottery Airfield to mark the exact time 65 years ago that the Screaming Eagles left East Devon to take part in the liberation of France from German occupation.
