Heavy early morning rain ends in time to ensure village’s big day was a huge success
ORGANISERS of Dalwood country fair were delighted to see the back of early morning rain clouds, in time for Saturday’s afternoon opening.
Axminster Town Crier, Nick Goodwin, proclaimed proceedings under way and welcomed the large number of visitors.
There was a big entry in the children’s fancy dress and main ring events included a tractor assembly competition, Punch and Judy, ferret racing and steam train rides.
Organising committee member Kathy Laing said they were delighted with the turnout and hoped to match, or better, last year’s total of around 7,000. The profits will go to three charities – the air ambulance, Axminster Hospital League of Friends and Children’s Hospice South West.
She added; “We want to thank all those who helped so much on the day - it is such a big effort form the village.”
