A DANCE group, which has entertained at Honiton events for the past 24 years, could be waltzing into the red because of the recession. The Tudor Dance Group, which has 37 members, has seen bookings fall to an all-time low."This is our worst year ever for bookings," said group member Elizabeth Thurgood."We normally have between 30 and 40 bookings, but this year we have only got eight."The period dancers, who were a highlight of Honiton's Market 750 celebrations, do not charge a fee for appearing at events - just mileage."Event organisers can't even afford that this year," said Ms Thurgood."We are down to using our own funds. Our insurance goes up every year, so we have got to do something to get some funds."Between 20 and 24 Tudor dancers attend each event, providing a dazzling display of period dancing while wearing authentic costumes. The dancers also provide living history displays of dancing from the medieval, Stuart and Victorian periods. If you would like the group to appear at an event you are organising, call Ms Thurgood on (01404) 831512.
