An East Devon community nurse has won the hearts of her patients and their families – earning her two more nominations for the Healthcare Hero Awards 2013.

Harriet Nicholls works at Ottery St Mary Hospital.

She was nominated by Jim Hanson, of Ottery St Mary, who added: “I would like to nominate Harriet for the award as she nursed my wife Enid through the closing stages of her life. She helped our family cope with a very distressing illness and was always there for us with kindness and understanding. Thank you Harriet – you are a wonderful lady.”

The third nomination came from Bill and June Broadley, also of Ottery St Mary, who said: “Harriet has been looking after my husband for several months now. He has ulcers on both legs. Thanks to Harriet and the Ottery St Mary team, they have almost healed. We both absolutely agree with everything Mrs Wright from Whimple has said.”

The deadline for nominations is midnight on Tuesday, December 31.

Dave Baxter, the housekeeping supervisor at Exmouth community hospital, has also received another nomination in recognition for his hard work. He was nomination by HR manager Majorie Mullins, who said: “David consistently provides a high level of support to his team members as well as his manager.

“David is extremely flexible and covers other areas as and when required.

“He is always polite and courteous and well balanced in his opinions. He ensures that his team consistently provides a high standard of cleanliness at the hospitals he is responsible for.”
