Honorary Alderman Bill Thorne has died at the age of 84.

Honorary Alderman Bill Thorne has died at the age of 84.Born on May 15, 1924, he gave many years service to local government at all levels. He was a member of Honiton Rural District Council from 1966 to 1974, a county councillor from 1974 to 1993 and a member of East Devon District Council from 1980 until 1999. At EDDC he held many chairmanships and positions of responsibility, including Deputy Leader. He was also chairman of the district council from 1990 to 1992.A funeral service will be held at Talaton Parish Church on Friday, June 20, at 2pm followed by burial in the churchyard. Family flowers only. Donations will be taken in aid of Ottery St Mary Hospital League of Friends.
