Parked cars blocking Lyme’s narrow streets could prevent the fire engine reaching an emergency, says Virgil
FIREFIGHTERS in Lyme Regis fear someone could die if they are prevented form reaching an emergency by parked cars blocking the narrow streets.
Their senior officer, Virgil Turner, gave the warning at a closed meeting of the resort’s Police and Communities Together (PACT) group.
He said motorists, both locals and visitors, often did do not take into account the width of a fire appliance, and there could be fatal consequences if the crew could not reach a blaze in time because of parked vehicles.
It was agreed that Dorset Fire and Rescue Service would continue to issue advice leaflets to offending vehicles, and the police would personally visit the vehicle’s owners to explain the problems.
