DETECTIVES in Honiton say it is imperative that anybody with knowledge of a house burglary, in which a shotgun was stolen, gets in touch.

The Falco single barrel .410 calibre gun, with a medium tan coloured stock, and the cabinet it was locked in were stolen from a property in Alfington, between Honiton and Ottery St Mary, on July 1.

The owner's shotgun licence was also stolen.

The serial number on the missing shotgun is 48611 and the licence certificate number is 50D00000106837.

DC Chris Wilsden said: "It is imperative that any person with knowledge of the stolen shotgun and its whereabouts, or any other items known to have been stolen in this incident, contact police via 08452 777 444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independant charity that works to help solve crimes, and can be contacted anonymously.

"Burglary dwelling offences occur far less in East Devon than in Devon as a whole, which is itself below the national average. The theft of a firearm of any type is very rare and appears to have been an opportunist theft on this occasion."

The crime reference for anybody offering information is KO/08/400.
