East Devon District Council has allocated money to be spent for community projects in Axminster, according to its funding officer.Sulina Tallack, a guest speaker at the monthly town council meeting on Monday, said there was over £141,000 available and that the local community should decide how it was spent. She said Axminster was a forerunner in 'participatory budgeting' - allowing local people to have a say on how funds should be distributed. The funding is offered under Section 106 Agreements, which involves a legal agreement between developers and EDDC.Mrs Tallack said: "We need strong evidence that proves why a community needs the money and what it can be spent on."The money cannot be spent on anything other than what was requested, and any money not spent would be returned to the developers.
