Honiton-based Devon Freewheelers was bowled over by a generous donation of £900 that will ensure the charity is able to continue its life saving work.

It was presented with a cheque by the Ottery St Mary Short Mat Bowls Club after the group took part in an inter-county fundraising initiative.

The bowls club also presented a cheque for £500 to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

The three charity competitions run between teams from Devon, Dorset and Somerset over two months raised in excess of £1400 for the two charities that provide very different but equally essential emergency services to people in Devon.

Club Chairman Ron Berry made the presentation to Devon Air Ambulance’s Don Hansford and Daniel Lavery, the chief executive of Devon Freewheelers.

Both charities thanked the club for the timely boost to their funds.

Further charity events will be held in 2014, and anyone interested in joining the club is invited to come along to the Institute in Ottery Street, on Mondays 7pm to 10pm or Wednesdays 10am to noon.

Devon Freewheelers provides an out–of-hours emergency response courier service to the NHS and transports important medical supplies such as blood to hospitals.
