THE Midweek Herald, which covers East Devon and part of West Dorset, is today making an unusual appeal over the internet - in a bid to help a Northumberland man.The 48-year-old desperately needs a mobility scooter after under-going surgery to remove a tumour on his spine. He has also had a colostomy.Surgery has left him with dropped feet and no feelings in his legs. The man responded to a report on this website, which told the story of widow Carol Gilson, of Honiton, Devon, and how she was giving away her late husband's mobility scooter. The Herald was asked to choose a suitable recipient.A mother-of-three, who lives in Honiton, is to be presented with the scooter later this week.It was not practical for the Herald to award the scooter to a man living so far away in Northumberland.Having spoken to him, Herald editor Belinda Bennett is appealing for groups in Northumberland, who may be able to help, to get in touch."This man is in desperate need and we would love to be able to link him up to a group in Northumberland that could help," she said. The man lives in Alnwick. If you have a mobility scooter or can offer any help, call Belinda on 01392 888488.
