‘Please leave them at home’ plea after several call-outs for police across Devon on Saturday to distressed dogs in baking cars

Police have repeated calls not to leave dogs in cars during the hot weather.

A Facebook post from Holsworthy Neighbourhood Team said on Saturday police were called out to several dogs in hot cars right across Devon.

It said: ‘Please if you are going out and can’t take your beloved pet with you, leave them at home - DO NOT leave them in the car.

‘The weather is set to be fine for the next week - you would not expect a family member to sit in a locked, parked car in this heat, so please do not leave your pet there’.

If anyone sees a dog in distress locked in a car during the hot weather they are asked to report it immediately by calling 999.
