A RAPIST who absconded from prison is believed to have returned to Devon.

Edward 'Eddie' Braime walked out of the North Sea Camp prison in Lincolnshire in the early hours of Friday, March 12 - where he arrived just a day earlier.

Police have warned the public not to approach Braime, formerly of Okehampton.

The 39-year-old was handed three life sentences for a brutal attack on a woman in Aylesbeare in 1998.

Detective superintendent John Clements, head of public protection for Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "We've got no indication that he'd make his way to anywhere other than Devon.

"Since Friday we've had no sighting and we're keen to enlist the support of the public - to use their eyes and ears - so we can catch this man and get him back to prison."

Anyone who believes they have seen Braime should call 999 immediately.

* Braime is described as white, approximately 5ft 10 inches tall, of average build and has balding ginger hair. He has green eyes and speaks in a soft tone voice.
