Replica torch is on its way.

An Olympic torch relay from 1948 is to be re-enacted by sailing clubs from across Devon and Dorset.

Axe Yacht Club (AYC) will be helping the replica torch on its journey to the sailing centre at Weymouth, where competitors from across the world will compete for medal glory at this year’s Olympic games.

The torch relay is part of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Sail for Gold initiative to inspire future sailors.

The 1948 Olympic torch will arrive by boat from Beer Sailing Club on Saturday, June 16.

Weather depending the handover is expected around lunchtime or late afternoon if they are unable to launch from the beach.

If the weather is bad the torch will be transported by road.

A reception will be held in the AYC Clubhouse and if the weather is fine a barbecue will be held.

The torch along with a Feva dinghy will be taken to Seaton Primary School and Colyton Grammar School.

It will be on display at the AYC clubhouse until Saturday, June 23, and will be handed over to Lyme Regis Sailing Club.
