Unless you ask the correct questions of the appropriate people, you don't get the right answers! The three-tier system of local government does not work, but those at district level want to maintain their power.East Devon District Council has spent hundreds of thousands of pounds of our money in their "save our gravy-train" campaign. What needs to be done is:1 Scrap the district councils, sell off the redundant assets, so that the money can be put to better use. 2 Pass the matters of local concern back to the parish councils.3 Pass the county-wide issues to County Hall, where they are better equipped to deal with these matters. My proposals may not be popular with everyone but, in times such as these, rationalisation is the only answer.Adrian MillsTownsendBeer
