CONCERN has been raised about the fate of three trees in The Glen, which have been damaged by dogs.

Councillor Roy Coombs said three oak trees in the area were being destroyed by dogs clawing at the bark.

He reported the damage to the town council meeting on Monday, August 10. He said: "We have three oak trees that are about 30 years old and they are being destroyed by dogs clawing at the bark. If you ring bark a tree, it destroys it."

He called for tree guards to be put up to prevent further damage, or, he said: "They will not survive.

"This would not be allowed to happen in Sidmouth or Budleigh, so why is it allowed to happen in Honiton?"

Councillor Vernon Whitlock said: "We are talking about one dog and its owner. It is not the vast majority of dog owners and East Devon District Council is taking action.
