A FORMER Honiton man, banned from seeing family members in the town because of his drug addiction, admitted to breaching a restraining order last Thursday. Matthew Stamp, 23, of Mead Way, Seaton, pleaded guilty to breaking the order and bail conditions, ordering him not to enter Honiton or visit family members in the town, before Central Devon Magistrates sitting in Exeter. The court heard how Stamp, a heroin addict, had been hit with the order earlier this year after "harassing family members by attending their addresses and asking for money to purchase drugs". On April 19 he flouted the demand by visiting his 81-year-old grandmother, who has a heart condition, and was given money. Last Tuesday (April 21) he was turned away from his father's address. The following day, a special constable spotted Stamp in a High Street, Honiton, shop and he was duly reprimanded for breaking his bail conditions. Defending Stamp, Rachel Bentley told the court it was a "sad situation". She said: "He (Stamp) has a six months restraining order which the family had to make a difficult decision over. He was struggling with it and had the chance in March to undergo rehabilitation. This had no impact on his offending, but there have not been any threats made, simply requests for money- and he has made a general nuisance of himself."She added his family hoped to welcome him back when he overcomes his addiction. Stamp will be remanded in custody until he is sentenced on May 1.
