EDDC judges praised the initiative of Dunkeswell Parish Council for supporting and sustaining a local youth club of more than 100 members.

As a celebration of its 10th anniversary, the club decided to put on a ‘Big Show’ for the community.

The project was enthusiastically supported by the Dunkeswell Parish Council, which financed the rehearsal rents and supplied a costume budget.

The club has now put on two ‘Big Shows’ showcasing youth talent, which has helped develop skills, confidence, community appreciation and respect.

John Barrow, chairman of Dunkeswell Parish Council, said: “We are all very proud of our youth club, in particular Anne, and the wonderful achievements of our youngsters.

“If only more parish councils would support their youth clubs and the valuable role they play in making our young people feel part of the community.”

Councillor Stuart Hughes, chairman of EDDC, said: “So much voluntary work goes into community groups, such as the Youth of Dunkeswell, and the council appreciates the enormous effort that these volunteers make.”
