Sidmouth Carnival was a spectacle of colour and light on last weekend.

Participating floats were watched by spectators young and old as they headed towards to the seafront.

On the evening, spectators donated £2,400 to contribute towards next year’s event.

Jo Hughes, chairman of the carnival committee, said: “We were really pleased with how it turned out.

“The Sidmouth people were amazing - they were clapping and joining in. It was such a carnival atmosphere in the town and it was really nice.”

She thanked collectors, Ron Miles, landlord of The Balfour Arms, for providing a meal for the carnival judges, and the Gliddon family for holding the children’s Lego float competition. This was was won by Matthew Farrington-Smith, aged five. His 10-year-old brother, Charlie, came second.

Mark Gliddon said there was a decline in entries from the previous year, adding: “It was still a brilliant standard - they all had a very good imagination. We hope to do it again next year and hope to increase entries.”
