Residents in the Honiton, Axminster and Seaton electoral divisions will vote for their county councillor on Thursday

Residents across East Devon go to the polls on Thursday (Thursday, May 2) to elect their county councillors.

Candidates will be contesting seats in all four local divisions – Axminster, Seaton Coastal, Honiton St Paul’s and Honiton St Michael’s.

The three main political parties are fighting in all the wards and the United Kingdom Independent Party (UKIP) is represented in three.

There are two independent candidates – at Axminster and Honiton St Paul’s - and two from the Green Party – fighting in each of the Honiton divisions.

All the existing county councillors will be bidding to retain their seats. They are Andrew Moulding at Axminster, Jim Knight at Seaton, Paul Diviani at Honiton St Paul’s and Sara Randall Johnson, at Honiton St Michael’s.

Meanwhile, across the county border, residents in Lyme Regis and Charmouth will be asked to choose a new Dorset county councillor to replace Conservative Colonel Geoff Brierley who is giving up his Marshwood Vale seat after 12 years.

Voting takes place between 7am and 10pm and counting will start at 10am the following morning.

Michael Teare (Labour); Jonathan Underwood (Lib Dem); Brian Smith (UKIP); Sara Randall Johnson (Conservative) *; Sharon Pavey (Green).

Honiton St Paul’s:

Sally Boom (Labour); Paul Diviani (Conservative) *; Cathy Gardener (Independent); Paul Newman (Lib Dem); Martin Paine (Green); Peter Townsend (UKIP).

Seaton Coastal (includes Uplyme):

Steven Williams (Labour); Peter Burrows (Lib Dem); Jim Knight (Conservative) *; Warwick Knowles (UKIP).

Dorset: Marshwood Vale (includes Lyme Regis):

Chit Chong (Green Party); Patrick William James Hicks (Lib Dem);; Richard Howard Nicholls (Labour); Daryl Whane Turner (Conservative).

A by-election is also being held to elect a new East Devon District Councillor for Feniton and Buckerell tomorrow.

The candidates are Susie Bond (Independent) and Andrew Dinnis (Conservative).
