Rare species recorded
The 2009 Bird Report summarises all recorded sightings in the area last year, which were gathered by local and visiting birdwatchers.
The main highlight for enthusiasts was the six Glossy Ibis found in Black Hole Marsh last September. It was only the second recorded visit by the species, which were first spotted in the area back in December 1964.
Species including Cory’s Shearwaters, Caspian gulls, Whoopers, Bewick’s swans and Woodlarks also made appearances during the year. Copies of the report are available to buy from Archway Bookshop in Axminster or by post from the Countryside Service at East Devon District Council.
