SENIOR officers at East Devon District Council are doing stints on reception at Knowle as part of a back-to-the-floor initiative.

It's all part of National Customer Service Week, during which the council aims to find out how well staff are doing and what needs to be improved.

On one day every month, customers will be handed a form to complete when they visit the council's offices at Knowle. Once reception staff have dealt with their enquiry, visitors will be asked, anonymously, to complete a number of questions and then put the form in a box within the foyer area.

Customers will be asked to complete a short survey of five questions, using a laptop on the front reception desk. Help will be at hand for people who are unsure how to use the technology.

Customers visiting the council's website will be asked to rate each page they look at using a 'star' system. The address is: www.eastdevon.gov.uk/

Every hour on each working day, customer service advisors will be calling two customers asking for their feedback on the way in which their enquiry was dealt with.

All these initiatives will be continued beyond National Customer Service Week and will provide feedback to ensure that services are continually improved.
