A working group has been set up to look at both sports and play funding.

Eight projects have been chosen to be in the running for £50,000 worth of section 106 funding earmarked for sports in Honiton.

Honiton Town Council will be liaising with the groups proposing the projects to ensure the ideas are deliverable by April 2015 and affordable.

An additional £33,000 of ‘play funding’ is being made available for projects that would enhance opportunities for ‘play’ in the town.

Councillor Sharon Pavey, during the town council’s monthly meeting, said that more money was available for the play funding than first thought.

Local school children will be involved in how the money is spent. Cllr Pavey said: “Both projects will be the subject of a community vote next year.”

The town council agreed that the work group, set up to look into the sports and play funding, will continue to work with EDDC to research possibilities and liaise with the community.
