Four candidates are standing in the General Election, on Thursday, June 8, for the Tiverton and Honiton constituency. Gill Westcott, Green Party
Gill chairs the parish council in Cheriton Bishop, Mid Devon, and helped found the Community Land Trust there to provide affordable homes for local people.
She is director of Exeter Pound, a currency supporting independent businesses trading in the city.
Gill said: “I would work for economic security for all rather than growth which favours only the wealthy; local businesses provide the majority of jobs in Devon and support a resilient economy which can trade globally but is not floored by crises.
“Peoples’ security also needs decently funded and fully, as do public health and social care and education; farm support; and a growing clean technology sector to increase energy independence and promote climate stability.
“I supports more local control in the planning system and electoral reform so that every vote counts.”
Gill has two degrees in economics, and a PhD in politics.
She lives with her husband, and has two grown up sons.
