Cllr Jeremy Walden succeeds Cllr Paul Hayward as the town's First Citizen

Axminster elected a new town mayor and deputy tonight (Monday, May 08)

Jeremy Walden was appointed to succeed Cllr Paul Hayward who chose not to stand for the customary second term in office.

Deputy Mayor Lara Rowe also stood down and was replaced by Anni Young.

Both Cllr Walden, a previous mayor, and Cllr Young were elected unopposed.

Cllr Hayward was thanked for his efforts for the town during his year as First Citizen.

Cllr Walden added: “Thank you for electing me. I shall do the very best I can. It is an honour to serve the town I love and the people in it.”
