But more people at a public meeting were against than in favour.

History was made in Honiton last week when electors voted for a second town poll on the same issue - the proposed Honiton Community Centre.

Even though more people at a public meeting were against a second poll, the required number of electors voted in favour.

More than 100 people packed into the council chamber, in New Street, last Thursday to participate in the meeting, which was called by six electors.

However, most of those electors failed to attend the meeting, leaving just two to put the case for a poll.

It fell on Dowell Street resident Ray Griffin and residents’ association chairman Ken Sherman to outline their concerns about Honiton Town Council’s 2million project.

Many people spoke in favour of the scheme and their positive comments were praised by Alderman Vivienne Ash, who said “negativity held sway” for too long.

East Devon’s returning officer will determine if a second poll can take place.
