AFTER two feasibility meetings, a group in Honiton has decided to press ahead with plans to hold a series of Armed Forces Day events in the town in June.

An overnight vigil at Honiton's war memorial, a drumhead service and a dinner dance are being planned.

Other events are also being worked on.

Anybody willing to sponsor the events or keen to help out in any way should contact Steve Parsons, of Allhallows Museum and the South West Airfields Heritage Trust, on (01404) 46118.

Old photographs and military uniforms are being sought for an exhibition at the museum.

Paul Biddle MBE is among those enthusiastically pursuing the plans.

He told a meeting in Honiton last week: "The aim of the events is two-fold - to promote the heritage of our local airfields, to get some interest in maintaining them, and to remind people that Honiton is an old garrison town.

"We can remember the role the armed forces have played in the town in the past."

Cadets and veterans will be among those to support the Armed Forces Day events.
