A BANGOR University student, who is a former pupil at Colyton Grammar School, has scooped a �5,000 scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement.

A BANGOR University student, who is a former pupil at Colyton Grammar School, has scooped a �5,000 scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement. Kelly Davis, of Lime Grove, Exmouth, was one of three first-year students at Bangor University to receive an excellence scholarship for the highest academic attainment in their relevant subject areas.Kelly achieved four As at A-level and a distinction in the psychology advanced extension award.She is now in her first year studying psychology with child and language development.Kelly was among more than 80 students who received their prizes at the university's annual scholarship presentation evening, where around 100 awards, totalling close to �120,000, were handed out to 87 first year students - the majority of who were receiving scholarship awards after excelling in the university's entrance scholarship exams.Kelly said: "The award will help contribute to my accommodation and living costs and allow me to concentrate on my studies without having to get a part time job."Carys Roberts, head of student recruitment at Bangor University, said: "This is the first year that the university has awarded excellence scholarships and we're delighted to be able to recognise Kelly's academic achievement upon entry."We are confident she will go on to excel in her studies during her time here at Bangor.
