Extra funding for pothole repairs

DEVON County Council has been awarded more than �9 million to tackle pothole repairs.

The announcement was made in the Chancellor’s budget, which set aside �100 million of additional funding to repair the roads damaged during the winter.

This gives Devon County Council a total �9,303,039 to spend on these repairs.

Devon County Council leader John Hart said: “Our road network suffered badly this winter during the prolonged severe cold spell with the worst snowfall for 30 years. Some of the effects of that damage are only just appearing now.

“As we have more miles of roads to maintain than any other authority in the country we welcome the allocation of this funding, which will enable us to continue our ongoing efforts to keep Devon’s roads as safe as we possibly can.”

The council has already set aside more than �7 million to be spent on pothole repairs for the coming financial year as part of its ongoing repair programme.

More than 200,000 potholes have been fixed on Devon’s roads since January last year.
