The event, which has been organised by Honiton Dementia Action Alliance (HDAA) and LED Leisure, is being run to mark Dementia Awareness Week 2018.

HDAA’s Heather Penwarden said: “There is more and more evidence emerging that keeping fit and leading an active and healthy lifestyle can reduce your risk of getting certain types of dementia later in life.

“Just ten minutes of brisk walking a day can really make a difference.

“Last year, this proved to be an extremely popular event - in some cases three generations and dogs of the same family took part!”

This year’s event, starting at 10am on Sunday, May 20, begins and ends at Allhallows Playing Fields, taking participants around countryside in Combe Raleigh.

Heather added: “You can chose to run or walk the course or a bit of both and together with your friends and family you can have a fun morning.

“If you have ever thought of trying to run 5k then there is plenty of time to get into training for the event.”

Music provided by John Capon and refreshments will be available for those not taking part but who still want to come along and support runners.

Adult entry costs £6 and children £3.30, with all donations going to Honiton Admiral Nurse.

The campaign is aiming to raise £150,000 to bring the specialist dementia nurse to Honiton.

Heather said: “Another date for your diary is Saturday, May 5.

“Honiton Admiral Nurse is over the moon to be hosting a fundraising concert at The Beehive by the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra [starts at 7.30pm].

“The orchestra comprises the best of Devon’s young jazz musicians and has won many national awards for its performances and educational programme.

“Finally this week, I just want to say another huge thank you to Katherine Ohlsen from Co-op Funeral Care whose donation to Honiton Admiral Nurse was a magnificent £182.71 rather than £122.71 as previously stated.

“We wish you all a Happy Easter from Honiton Admiral Nurse. Enjoy your chocolate eggs but then get out for a super spring family walk.”
