St Michael’s Day Centre cook, Eve Broom, retires after 33-years.

It is the end of an era at St Michael’s Day Centre, in Honiton.

One of the centre’s best-loved members of staff has retired after no less than 33 years.

Eve Broom, 65, has worked at the Westcott Way centre as a cook since it opened, but now hopes to take life a bit easier.

“I will miss the company, the clients and the staff as we used to have a bit of fun,” says Eve.

“It has been a pleasure working with all the clients and staff. They were all so friendly.”

Eve was joined by her colleagues last week to mark the occasion and retired last Thursday.

During her time, Eve has acquired the nickname ‘The Rottweiler’ and, as a special parting gift, was given a framed ‘Watch Out Rottweiler About’ sign.

However, she admits she has not decided where to put it yet.

Eve told the Midweek Herald that she hopes to travel the length of the country with her husband in a caravan when he retires next year.
